Operations on numbers I Addition I Subtraction I Multiplication I Division

Here i will show how to do Operations on numbers system.Lets start as follows: a.Operations on Integer In case of Integers these operations Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division remains the same. But there are certain properties which we need to keep in mind before applying any operation. In case of addition of integers, + += + i.e. if we add two positive numbers then the resultant number will be positive and resultant number will be the addition of both the numbers and get the positive sign. + -= - i.e. if we add one positive number and one negative number then the resultant number will be the subtraction of both the numbers , and get the sign of the bigger number i.e. if the bigger number is of positive sign then result will be positive and vice versa. Negation of Integers, If - sign is there in front of any number then it negates the number i.e. if number is positive then it will make it negative and if number is negative then it will make the number positive. In case of multiplication of integers + X += + i.e. if we multiply two positive numbers then the resultant number will be positive and resultant number will be the multiplication of both the numbers and get the positive sign. + X -= + i.e. if we multiply one positive number and one negative number then the resultant number will be negative and resultant number will be the multiplication of both the numbers and get the negative sign. - X -= + i.e. if we multiply two negative numbers then the resultant number will be negative and resultant number will be the multiplication of both the numbers and get the positive sign. Operation with 0 remains the same as in case with Whole numbers. Addition of any number with its negative will be result into “0” i.e. -5+5=0 etc. Negative numbers are also called additive inverse of numbers. In case of Division of Integers If we divide one number by another number like p/q, then p is called the numerator and q is called the denominator. Denominator q can never be negative suppose if q is negative then we take this minus sign to the numerator. The result of p/q will be either in the form of decimal or the form of least number i.e. Least number means dividing both the numbers by the H.C.F of p and q Division is possible in both the cases either p less than q or q less than p unless some specific condition stated in question. Operations in Case of Rational Numbers Rational numbers can always be written in the form of p/q, where p is called the numerator and q is called the denominator. In case of addition of Rational Numbers Addition of two rational numbers p/q and r/s In order to get p/q + r/s First we take L.C.M of q and s Let a= L.C.M q and s/q b= L.C.M q and s/s The answer will be p X a+ q X b/ L.C.M q and s The answer will again be the rational number only. In case of subtraction of Rational Numbers subtraction of two rational numbers p/q and r/s In order to get p/q - r/s First we take L.C.M of q and s Let a= L.C.M q and s/q b= L.C.M q and s/s The answer will be p X a - q X b/ L.C.M q and s The answer will again be the rational number only. In case of multiplication of Rational Numbers multiplication of two rational numbers p/q and r/s p/q X r/s= p X r / q X s The answer will again be the rational number only. In case of Division of Rational Numbers Division of two rational numbers p/q and r/s Means p/q/r/s gives us p X s/q X r The answer will again be the rational number only.
