Ask your question and my fortune teller will answer! This model has been on my wish list for quite some time, and thanks to Corona quarantine I was able to finish it in less than half the time it would usually take me to build something so complicated. The box can display four different texts that are randomized depending on the speed with which the crank is turned. This answer-system came fairly easy, but fitting it into a small box and adding movements for the head and arms and wires for the light effects around it was quite a puzzle. As with my pinball automaton, I used a power functions M motor to make the lights work, and levers to activate power switches to turn the eyes and crystal ball on and off at the right moment. In earlier builds I used chain links to “program” a longer sequence of events, but this time I was able to base the whole series of movements around one revolution of a slow-moving central axle. However, since most of the mechanics are cramped together and walled in to give the box more stability I was not able to show much of the inner workings in the video. Sorry about that, but to be honest, I’m most proud of the hooded eyes, his necklace and his batarang-moustache anyway...
